Why Go: A look
inside the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem
Be virtually transported to Jerusalem and discover the fascinating history of what many believe is the Tomb of Christ inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in an immersive 3-D experience. This new interactive exhibition at the Byzantine and Christian Museum presents the conservation and renovation done by scientists from the National Technical University of Athens as recorded by a team of researchers from National Geographic.
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, home to six different Christian orders and visited every year by believers and nonbelievers of every kind, serves as a microcosm of the whole city of Jerusalem. For the first time in centuries, the stone slab covering Jesus’ tomb is removed and captured on camera.
The exhibit openly and respectfully addresses potentially controversial material and clearly explains what is known through science, history and archaeological evidence. It is cautious not to confirm or criticize religious beliefs that might be associated with the site.
This exhibition features a short 3-D film with active 3-D glasses. Presented in Greek with an English audio device on request.
